CASE 1
Cytology report: Moderately cellular smears with small clusters of overlapping epithelial cells. Clean non-necrotic background. Presence of some loss of cellular cohesiveness. Small nuclei with rare pleomorphism. Smooth nuclear membrane with minimal indentation; small nucleoli sometimes multiple. The aspirate was reported in category C4.
Triple assessment:
- Clinic: negative but history of breast cancer.
- Imaging: very suspicious abnormality necessitating surgery.
- Cytology: representative, adequate sample, suspicious of malignancy.
Ccl: Indication for per-operative diagnosis and option for mastectomy.
Surgery: Frozen sections demonstrated an invasive carcinoma of +/- 1 cm. The patient underwent a mastectomy with axillary dissection.
Histology report: Invasive carcinoma mixed type ductal and lobular grade I with a size of 0.9 cm. Absence of lymph node metastasis.
